AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Lori Worley
1.    Lori, how long have your been an author?
I have been an author for a year this December.

2.    What was the first book you published?
The first book I published was The Mermaid’s Lament. It was a literary fiction novel that was dark and deconstructed elements of a mermaid fairytale.

3.    Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am a mother of two from Southern California. I write in multiple genres that incluce Lit.  Fiction, Contemporary Romance, and I am working on a YA. I have always been an avid reader and a writer. My greatest loves are the ocean, Hemingway, Green Day, Thai food, and concerts. I detest excessive heat, and the band Journey.

4.    Have you always known you wanted to be an author?
Despite it sounding terribly cliché I did always know I wanted to a writer. I would fill composition books, napkins, and even wrote on my shoes when I was younger.

5.    Who/what inspired you to write your first book?
I was inspired to write my first book while watching The Little Mermaid with my daughters. We were talking about what we loved and I said everything except I couldn’t wrap my mind around giving up the ocean.

6.    Can you tell us a little about your books? Where are they sold?(Amazon, B&N, etc).
My first novel The Mermaid’s Lament is a story about the struggle of a mermaid thrust from the sea; a freak amongst what is essentially an island port freak show. It’s my version of the human struggle from the perspective of this cast out mermaid left disfigured and the human man who left broken who finds her. Her character is fighting for herself and his character is fighting for his own soul. It is currently only being sold on Amazon as part of both KDP Select and the KDP Unlimited program.

My other novel, Something Like That, is a contemporary romance about two people who were not dealt the easiest life coming together. It’s an intelligent love story. It’s available on all platforms (Amazon, Nook, Smashwords, and Ibooks.) It is also available in paperback.

7.    Which main character would you say is your favourite and why?
I think my favorite main character has been Dylan McEwan from Something Like That; he was enjoyable to write about. Honestly though I think my favorite character in anything I have written is a supporting character. Fenton Wright from The Mermaid’s Lament will most likely be the character I was most proud of writing when I am on my deathbed.

8.    Is there anything that you cannot do without when writing?
I cannot do without three things; music, hot tea/green tea, and my nails being painted. The last one is weird but is my nails look bad then I find them distracting while I type.

9.    Which comes first; The character's story or the idea of the book?
I think that both the character’s story and the idea of the book come at the same time. If one were to proceed before the other than I would have to say the characters follow the idea.

10. Are you currently working on any new projects? Can you tell us a little about it?
I am currently working on my first YA novel, Each Wave That Breaks. It is a coming of age story about a group of friends told through the perspective of the main character. At this time I don’t want to say too much about it.

11.  How can readers get in contact with you or find out more about your books?
Readers can follow me in a multitude of places. I am currently on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snap Chat, Goodreads, Amazon Author, and Tsu. I am always open to messages and emails to discuss my books.
