REVIEW~ Arsen by Mia Asher

***BLURB***
One glance was all it took…

I'm a cheater.
I'm a liar.
My whole life is a mess.

I love a man.

No, I love two men…
I think.

One makes love to me. The other sets me on fire.
One is my rock. The other is my kryptonite.

I'm broken, lost, and disgusted with myself.

But I can't stop. This is my story.
My broken love story.

So many emotions were moving through me as I read Arsen.
Arsen: A Broken Love Story was told from mostly Catherine's point of view.  A few chapters were told from Ben's and Arsen's point of view`s also.

From the beginning I knew Cathy a.k.a Catherine would not be my favorite person by the way she spoke to Ben. This was a woman that lacked so much and in turn fail to face her problems. Cathy is a very heartless woman and I hated her (hate is such a strong word but yes I loathe her). How can one woman know that her actions were immoral, disgusting but still do them with a smile on her face. Pure evil I tell you.

Then we were introduced to Arsen. Where the hell did he come from? I don't know a lot about Arsen besides his ability to have God like sex. He was also lost and broken in many ways but always seem to get what he wanted. I thought Arsen was selfish, childish and a huge jerk.

Oh my sweet, sweet Ben. I loved Ben because he had it in him to love a coward. He tried so hard to save what he thought was his life but I really wanted him to man up and kick her in the butt.

To Mia Asher, how dare you put me through such heartache. So many times while reading Arsen.  I wanted to reach out to the author and ask her ”Why?”.
This book lived up to the hype. Either you will fall in love with the story or you are going to hate it because of the characters behavior and events. I loved it despite my dislike for the characters. The story was well written, heart wrenching, suspenseful and there was no way I could deny that.

EXCERPT
Once we were alone on our way to school, she glanced down at our joined hands and then back up at me. Her wide smile and bright eyes told me she was feeling the same warm feelings I was.
“Hey, boyfriend,” she said as she gave my hand a squeeze.
The shit-eating grin lifted my cheeks again. “Hi yourself, girlfriend.”
“We probably shouldn’t play hooky today, should we?” Without releasing my hand, she sped up a little before turning to walk backwards so that she could meet my eyes.
I thought about the day we could have if we did and ached to say yes. “We probably shouldn’t. It’s probably a better idea to prove we’re going to be responsible even if we’re a couple.”
“Hmm, couple. I like the sound of it.” She turned around again, resting her head against my arm as we walked.
I dropped her hand and wrapped my arm around her shoulders.
“Maybe we can still be responsible if we’re a little late though?” she asked.
“Maybe. Why? What do you have in mind?”
She dragged me in the direction of the park where we’d played cards the day before—the park which had been “ours” for as long as I could remember and where everything had changed.
“Well, our first date was cut a little short, don’t you think?”
The ghost of her lips tracing over mine filled my mind, together with the memory of her tongue tangling with my own.
“Definitely,” I said, unable to keep the lust and desire from my voice.
We walked in silence until we arrived at our park. Without any verbal agreement, we made our way toward the table we’d claimed as our spot years earlier.
Alyssa sat on the bench and I took my usual place perched behind her on the table. I placed my legs on either side of her body and leaned my chin on the top of her head. It was a position we’d sat in hundreds of times before as we chatted about anything and everything. Only, this time it was different. Neither of us spoke, which had never really happened before. The silence around us was almost maddening; the only sound, our matching breaths.
“So—” we both said at the same time, before stopping at the same time.
“You go—” Again our voices were almost perfectly in sync.
I chuckled as she turned around and knelt on the bench to look at me. I helped her up onto the table beside me and just looked at her for a moment. Her lips called to me, and I wanted to kiss her, longed to with every part of me, but I didn’t know if I should. I didn’t want kissing to be the only thing we had. There was so much more that I liked about her and none of those things had changed. Yet it was still different. Everything was different.
“Don’t hate me for asking, but is this weird as hell for you too?” she asked.
My relief that I wasn’t the only one who was feeling the new, odd atmosphere surrounding us escaped in a quiet laugh. “So weird.”
“It shouldn’t be though, should it?”
“No. I mean, we’re still us, right?”
She practically leapt in place. “Right!”
“We’re still friends,” I added. “We always will be.”
“Exactly. We’re just friends that kiss now.”
As she said the words, my gaze was drawn to her bright pink lip gloss. I licked my lips. “Friends that kiss a lot?”
“If you’re lucky.”
I trailed my hands into her hair, drawing her face slowly closer to mine. “Am I?”
“I don’t know,” she whispered. Her lips were so close to mine that I could feel her breath on my skin. “I’m starting to think that maybe I’m the lucky one.”

Michelle Irwin has been many things in her life: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; a young girl willing to fight for the love of a vampire; and a time-travelling madman in a box. She achieved all of these feats and many more through her voracious reading habit. Eventually, so much reading had to have an effect and the cast of characters inside her mind took over and spilled out onto the page.

Michelle lives in sunny Queensland in the land down under with her surprisingly patient husband and ever-intriguing daughter, carving out precious moments of writing and reading time around her accounts-based day job. A lover of love and overcoming the odds, she primarily writes paranormal and fantasy romance.

★★★

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book I've read from Aleatha even though I have met her a thousand times. I am glad that this book was the book to make me addicted for more of the author's writing.
Insidious from the first page had me hooked.  The story kept my curiosity going, kept me guessing and a lot of curse words were exchanged during certain events. I wondered how authors come with these plots? My gosh, was I thrown around a million times as twists, secrets and lies came to the surface. Aleatha knew just how to keep you at the edge before reeling you back in.

This romantic erotica suspense was it for me!!!!! I was completely engulfed on the drama that was going on this book. (Call me a drama queen)

The story was told from Victoria's point of view with little glimpses into her past. These little flashbacks helped me understand why the heroine arrived at the point in her life, married to a monster.

Victoria Conway Harrington had me fool. She appeared to be innocent at first but boy was she a viper waiting on her time to strike. Despite all that the Victoria went through she was smart, cunning, caring and a deadly weapon.

“No longer willing to be a victim, today I'm insidious”

“ You're a bitch. You've been a pain in my ass for ten years. You're also fucking stronger than I ever thought”

Her husband was evil, scheming, a prey of sorts. I didn't really know much about him to like him, I cannot bring myself to like him.  He wanted his fantasies to be filled and subjected Victoria to many years of darkness and crude events.

Overall, this story kept me interesting from beginning to end. Talking about “THE END” WTF? OMG what does the ending mean? I had to write the author to find out but of course she wouldn't spill lol. I guess the ending can be taken into so many ways and it's up to the readers imagination.  The story does wrap up a little abruptly and  I wished a few points that was build up fell a little flat. I was willing to forever those two points and still rate Insidious a 5 stars.

INSIDIOUS by Aleatha Romig Excerpt:

I began to turn toward him, to stop the uneasy feelings his proximity spurred, when he stopped

me: his tenor left no room for compromise.

“Don’t turn around.”

Involuntarily, I shuddered at his command.

“Put your hands on the window. Let me see those pretty little fingers.”

I’d never heard a man speak with such unquestioning authority. Obediently, I splayed my fingers

on the cool glass before me, thankful I’d left my purse on the sofa. Caging me within his arms,

his hands came to rest beside mine. The contrast in size was startling as his deep voice exhaled

breathily onto my neck.

His lips brushed my neck. Instead of fighting, I tilted my head back against his chest to give him

better access.

Sighing, he moaned. “Damn, girl, you’re sexier up close than I ever imagined. Do you know how

hot that answer was?” His fingers that had just painfully twisted my hard nub caressed my same

breast. Suddenly, his touch was warm and electric. “You may be frightened, but it’s not of me,

it’s of what you’re feeling. Your nipples are telling me you’re feeling the same thing I am.

They’re saying that you like this.” With both hands on my breasts, he’d lowered the top of my

dress fully exposing me to the window. Thankfully, we were stories above the city. “Do you

know how else I know you’re aroused?”

Forming words had become increasingly difficult. Therefore, I shook my head.

“I smell it, and darling, you smell fantastic. I bet you taste fantastic.”

I love to see when an author takes that initial step to publish a book. Author Erin Cristofoli took that step and for a debut novel' Starting Over' was really good.
Starting Over was a little of everything. It was funny, mystery , had it's serious moments, a protective alpha, secrets and lies. Who doesn't like secret and lies?

Kathrine White a.k.a Kate moved to Toronto after leaving her life behind in her small hometown. She is trying to start over and is not looking for a serious relationship. Her friend drags her out one night and here is where she meets Ben. I liked Kate even though a few times I wished she would put on her big girl panties and admit her feelings for Ben.

Benjamin Hyde is a successful business man that is into the BDSM world. I liked that Ben is protective and sometimes a little domineering.
Starting Over takes you on a ride of two adults that were both hurt to a point that they believe being alone is the best answer. I loved seeing how each character helped the other to open up slowly.

Overall, a really good debate novel by the author. The characters are likable and fun. The sex scenes were HOT!!!
The only thing I would say was that the peak of the story came a little too late for me. As I got closer to the end of the book I was thinking it was going to be a series. There were a couple of characters like Roxanne I would have liked to known where she disappeared too but eh.

Good Job Erin!!!!

"I don’t think I can even express how well written this book was!! I loved the characters and I loved the stories everything fell together so nicely!! i don’t want to give too much away since I’m the first review, but I will say, you need to buy this book and read it ASAP!" ~ Alpha Book Club

"Please don’t think that that’s all this story is there are more twists, turns and complications to this than just Ben and Kate’s chance encounter, go get your copy and see what really lies in store for these two you wont be disappointed." ~ Amazon Reviewer

"Overall, this is a very sweet, feel good romantic story about learning to trust and love again. Ben and Kate are so good for each other. I think that Erin has a good future in the indie world, and look forward to her next book - which I hope will be about Jen, because she seems like a wild card!" ~ Goodreads Reviewer
Letting out a yelp, I closed my eyes and tried to prepare myself for the fall, but nothing happened. Instead, I peeked through squinted eyes to find myself plastered to the chest I had run into, feeling a strong arm wrapped around my waist. My hands were splayed across the man’s pec, and I couldn’t help but flex my fingers slightly, feeling the muscle beneath the shirt. Wow.
“Are you all right?” a rich, gravelly voice above me asked. I blinked and realized just how close I was to the perfect stranger, and tried to add some distance, but his hand remained firmly on my hip.
“Yes, thanks to you… just a little unsteady.” I looked up and found myself stunned, looking into the eyes of the man who had been watching me dance.

Erin was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, where she resides with her husband and two kids. She is a stay-at-home mom and has long dreamed of having a published book of her own. Starting Over is her debut romance novel. When she isn’t writing, Erin has a love of most forms of art - painting, photography and crocheting.
