Excerpts
Jack groaned and hid his face in his hands. This is what his life was reduced to? Getting set up on blind dates by eighty-year-old grandmas? He was pretty sure this was the definition of pathetic.

“I don’t know whether I love them or want to strangle them. When their attention is on someone else, I want to worship at their conniving little feet. But when they sink their claws into me, I want to scream like a little girl and go hide.”

“Underwear,” Betty repeated. “Why do you need cross-dressing underwear?”
Jack’s face pinked slightly. “Well, you know, to tuck certain assets away.”
The ladies giggled and glanced at his package, which was obviously not tucked away. Clearing his throat and resisting temptation to cover his family jewels with his hands, Jack continued. “And on this side, we have the big and beautiful section for women.”

Jack, Izzy, and the ladies met up at Izzy’s house the following night. The women were tittering in excitement. They had obviously coordinated their going-on-recon outfits. Their matching ensembles consisted of black, stretchy pants, black blouses, and black orthopedic shoes. They even had matching black scarves to hide their silver locks. Jack wondered if he should be escorting them to a casual funeral instead of going on this so-called recon mission.

“Hands in the air. Drop to your knees” was shouted at them. Blinded by a flashlight, it was impossible to identify the speaker.
Martha huffed. “There is no way I’m going to my knees, young man,” she yelled at the light.
“Me either. I’ll never be able to get up again,” Ally agreed and put her hands on her hips in protest.
Jack shook his head but quickly dropped to his knees. Only he would get caught while snooping with two grandmas who refused to listen to the police. He hung his head and pretended he was somewhere else, anywhere else.

Jack had enough on his plate with Wyatt thinking they were back together and lusting after Damien. On top of that, it looked like someone was stealing from the store. Huh, now that he thought about it, Mr. Hot and Delicious Cop might just be the distraction he needed. He grinned.

Wyatt arrived two hours later to prove that the day could indeed always get worse. He flounced into the office and walked right up to Jack. Hands on his hips, he flirted. “So, are you finally ready to admit that we were meant to be together?” Jack’s eyes bugged out. Yeah, he knew that Wyatt was holding a candle for him, but he hadn’t realized it was a never ending candle that gave the holder hallucinations. Seriously? They had broken up years ago – before they even opened the store. Should he be worried about Wyatt’s sanity?

Jack opened the door to the store and nearly laughed at the scene in front of him. Dee was on her knees surrounded by boxes of shoes splayed over the floor. Tommy was in front of her helping to gather the women’s shoes as quickly as he could while still managing to keep his eyes glued to Dee. His mouth hung open in surprise and just the tiniest bit of drool was dripping from the side of his wide-open mouth. Dee was blushing profusely while sneaking glances at Tommy. Jack didn’t want to interrupt, but he couldn’t resist the opportunity to cause trouble. “Hey darling,” he cooed at Tommy. “Did you come to see me?” Tommy nearly fell on his ass. “Hey man!” he shouted as his face turned a bright shade of red, nearly purple in its hue.

“Oooh.” Martha clapped. “When are we going to recon his house?”
Damien nearly fell off his chair with those words. “Oh, my God. Like they did at my place?” He hid his laugh behind his hand.
“No recon missions,” Noel bellowed. “I’m serious.” He took the time to pierce each member of the would-be spy squadron with his stare.
“Yes Noel,” the ladies dutifully chirped in chorus, but Jack could see the wheels spinning in their heads.

“I can’t get you or the lady gang out of jail if you get caught doing something stupid in the city.” Jack tried his best to look offended. “Something stupid? Would we do something stupid?” Noel snorted. “Of course you would.” He stood and left the office without another word.

The door was yanked open and there stood a Greek god. Seriously. Not only did the man look like a Greek god with sun-tanned olive skin, slightly curly black hair, and strong Mediterranean facial features, but he was also dressed in a toga and sandals. Jack prayed that they were having a costume party and he hadn’t just walked into some type of scripted sex scene. He shuddered.

Jack didn’t know if he could deal with any more drama, but the drama train was chugging along at full speed and there was no stopping it now. He, Izzy, the gray-haired Jessica Fletcher wannabes, Damien, and even Noel had been snooping around trying to figure out where his money was disappearing to, but they’d only ended up with more questions and certainly no answers. He laid his head on his desk and took a moment to pull himself together before taking out his phone to start mustering the forces.

R-rated teasers

“Right, Danny. What are you so nervous about?” Jack believed in the direct approach. No sense beating around the bush. He actually preferred to go nowhere near bush.

Jack used to drop in on Izzy whenever he was bored, in need of a bit of excitement, or had a craving for Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. Izzy still encouraged him to stop by whenever he wanted, especially now that she wasn’t working. But one time catching the two of them going at it while Noel had Izzy bent over the dining room table was enough to not only ruin his appetite but develop a habit of calling first and knocking really loudly before entering their house.

Izzy sounded out of breath and immediately Jack’s mind flashed to the memory of him walking in on Izzy and Jack messing around on the sofa. They hadn’t rounded all the bases yet but were past second and clothes were no longer part of the scene. Seeing Noel with a hard-on wasn’t the turn-on Jack had thought it would be. Jack groaned at the memory.

Author bio:
I was born and raised in Wisconsin, but think I’m a European. After spending my senior year of high school in Germany, I developed a bad case of wanderlust that is yet to be cured. My flying Dutch husband and I have lived in Ohio, Virginia, the Netherlands, Germany and now Istanbul. We still haven’t decided if we want to settle down somewhere – let alone where. I’m leaning towards somewhere I can learn to surf even though the hubby thinks that’s a less than sound way to decide where to live. Although I’ve been a military policewoman, a commercial lawyer, and a B&B owner, I think with writing I may have finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up. That’s assuming I ever grow up, of course. Between playing tennis, running much slower than I would like, trying to adopt every stray dog within a 5-mile radius, traveling to exotic new locales, singing off tune, drinking entirely too many adult beverages, addictively watching new movies and reading books like they are going out of style, I write articles for a local expat magazine and various websites, review other indie authors’ books, write a blog about whatever comes to mind and am working on my sixth book.
